Red Velvet member Wendy trends on Twitter after comeback

By Bianca Geli

After four months of being on hiatus following a stage rehearsal accident on December 2019, Wendy or Shon Seung-wan of Korean girl group Red Velvet is back in the limelight.

Despite her agency SM Entertainment confirming in April that she has been discharged from the hospital, Wendy kept her social media activity minimal. Her most recent Instagram posts were from her birthday on February 22, 2020. Aside from these, she has kept her privacy while recovering from a serious hip fracture.

Her fans were ecstatic when SM Entertainment announced that Wendy would be joining a “Star Chatting” event with 300 lucky Red Velvet fans, also known as ReVeluvs. During the Lysn app text chat held on April 23, Wendy was delighted to interact with her fans and was in a positive mood about her recovery.

Hashtags related to Wendy's online comeback trended on Twitter Philippines as ReVeluvs waited for Wendy's text chat.

Red Velvet fans also posted screenshots of Wendy's messages which were mostly updates on her recovery.

Wendy made a cute note with a touching message for her fans.

Wendy also revealed that she celebrated her birthday with her whole family, including her sister and parents. She added that all the Red Velvet members contacted her at exactly midnight to wish her a happy birthday.

After reports came out that Wendy's injuries were so severe that she couldn't chew, fans were delighted to hear from Wendy that she's eating normally again and even made dalgona coffee.

Wendy's family is based in Canada, but it appears her family was in South Korea in time for her birthday. Her mother is still currently there, as Wendy sent fans photos of the snacks her mom had prepared.

She also told fans she's been watching dramas such as The King and Modern Family on Netflix.

According to Koreaboo, the Star Chatting event was only supposed to run for one hour but Wendy asked the staff to extend it for another 10 minutes to give her more time with the fans.

She said, "Let's not get sick, stay healthy and happy, and love each other even more this year."

Red Velvet first came to the Philippines on April 12, 2015 for the Best of Best in the Philippines concert. They last performed in Manila on June 2019 for the K-pop Music Festival 2019.
